Hi, Im selling my Profoto 7B Travel Kit on eBay. If you are hear you know how good this stuff is and I don’t have to tell you much other than its in great working condition, only minor wear on the items.  Battery works great. The generator has a small wear mark on the side and the reflector has minor dings from normal use.

Working on location is always a challenge: There is not enough time. There is not enough space. There is not enough light. And worse: there is no electricity. Avoiding the inconvenience of a gas generator, you will look for battery-powered gear. Which traditionally means serious compromise in power and features. But not any more. Leaving the studio with the Profoto Pro-7b, you are bringing 250 full power 1200 Ws flashes. Along with two lamp outlets accepting the entire range of Profoto light shaping tools. And all of that in a box that recycles in just 2.8 seconds. Use it While Recharging it Back in the studio, using the snap-on universal power adapter, the Pro-7b can actually operate as a regular ?ash generator while the battery is being recharged. The adapter is fast, charging an empty battery in just 2.5 hours, and it accepts a wide range of input power: 12–24 V or 90–240 V. Included with every Pro-7b is a standard 110/230 V charger, loading the battery in 5 hours. Needless to say, the battery is replaceable. In other words, you just bring as much energy as needed. Also, because the Pro-7b battery is completely memory free, there is no penalty for partial charging.

The output power can be adjusted over a full seven f-stop range, from 18.75 Ws up to 1200 Ws, in increments of 1/6 f-stop, for really precise control. The two outlets allow the power to be split symmetrically or asymmetrically with a 2:1 ratio. Of course the unit provides consistent output flash after flash, hour after hour. Designed for the rugged conditions on location, the Pro-7b features sturdy knobs, rubber-clad grips and frames, as well as the outlets and switches conveniently placed on top. Also, the generator is equipped with the Profoto special non-arching safety connectors, for easy connecting/disconnecting of the head at any time. Fully integrated with the Pro-7 system.

Pro-7b accepts all Pro heads : the ProHead, the ProRing, and the ProTwin head. Designed for the Pro-7b, there is also the smaller Pro-B Head: light and portable, but still equipped with a strong 100 W modeling lamp. Worth a special mention is the ProTwin head. With two separate Pro-7b generators, it gives you 2400 Ws in a single head – or faster recycling.

Over the last 3 moths I have been using the Kessler Crane shuttle pod as my primary motion control system.  Its ability to tear down into 4-foot sections, and its fast onsite setup has made it my default motion system.  I have come to the conclusion that size does matter.  The ability to shoot a 20 foot motion rail shot vs a 4 foot motion shot makes all the difference in the dramatic depth of field shifts that I want for the effort to setup rails for a shot.

The Shuttle Pod and 20 feet of track will pack will all fit in a Pelican IM3300 hard case.  The weight is just under 70 pounds and will be airline legal if you use media rate.

The shuttle pod is a simple but stable design-using squire tubing connected with aluminum stays.   A sled aka Shuttle Pod is attached to the top and uses an omega drive belt system to pull the sled across the track.

To setup of the shuttle fist pull out and attach the rails

Then attach the rails with the center braces.

Use the 1/4 20 bolts to build the rails

The rails are then attached to the end braces

Then the shuttle pod is build

Run the belt down the length of the track and use the end belt connectors to fastend them tight

Thread the belt though the drive using the powerd on basic controller.

Now set up the shuttle pod movement and program your timelapse.

Originally I used the Kessler Oracle Controller, which is a large joystick box able to control any of the Kessler motion production like the revolution head

For this test I used the new Kessler Crane elektraDRIVE BASIC Controller v2.0.

This little box is deceivingly simple.  In fact, if you’re not aware of all its functions, you will think its just a right left button with a rheostat dial to move the sled left or right.

Hiding beneath the three-control design are multiple movement modes depending on how long you hold the two red buttons to set the mode.

The BASIC Controller has 3 modes.

• Momentary Mode:
  • Hold down the direction button and the carriage moves as long as the button is held down. Variable speed can be adjusted “on the fly” while the carriage is in motion.
• Continuous Mode:
  • Press direction button once to begin carriage movement, and press it again to stop it.
• Pulse Mode:
  • This mode allows you to make ultra-slow movements that can be used for basic time lapses.

To switch between modes turn the dial counter clockwise all the way to 1 and hit both red direction buttons at the same time.  The solid LED light should turn green, orange or red to indicate the mode.

Momentary Mode (Green LED):

• Hold down the direction button and the carriage moves as long as the button is held down. Variable speed can be adjusted “on the fly” while the carriage is in motion.
• LED light will be green when in Momentary Mode
• LED will flash orange when you are pressing the red direction button in the direction you want to move the motor.

Continuous Mode (Orange LED):

• Press direction button once to begin carriage movement, and press it again to stop it.
• LED light will be orange when in Continuous Mode
• Dial the speed dial to the motor speed you want
• Hit red direct button

Pulse Mode (Red LED):

• This mode allows you to make ultra-slow movements that can be used for basic time lapse
• Pulse speed setup indicated by flashing RED LED
• 1 flash = 50 oracle motor speed
• 2 flash = 80 oracle motor speed
• 3 flashes = 120 oracle motor speed
• Push both buttons to confirm and LED will turn solid red.
• Each time the LED turns green the pulls is being fired.
• The variable dial controls the frequency of the pulses
• Motor direction can be controlled by the red direction buttons.

Up late tonight working working on on sponsor cuts of the Collaborative Film Snow Guardians documentary for NAB.  Adobe CS5 is crunching away, sorting 3 TB of video and photo footage  in Lightroom.  Good thing is Los Vegas Tickets have been purchased, hotels booked, I need a Red Bull.

Using a Kessler Pocket Jib to film Ski Patrollers working on the Mountain.

Up on top of mountain filming Ski Patrol & Search and Rescue.  We were using a Kessler Crane CineSlider and a PocketJib along with other fun toys.
